Risinghurst’s Elite v Risinghurst’s Lions

By Colin Webster

Sunday 7th August , saw many people , current and past , gather for a cricket match in memory of Peter Jaques , who sadly passed away , a couple of months ago.

Peter had for several years , been our groundsperson , doing so much , together with Graham Drummond , to keep the pitch and outfield in great order.
Peter and his presence , has been sadly missed .. but the idea of a cricket match, in his memory , fully supported by the Parish council , seemed like the most appropriate way to remember him.
So yesterday , current players from both 1st and 2nd XLs , together with several past players , gathered together for a 30 overs per side game , in glorious sunshine.
The result ; a win for Ben’s selected team .. against Connor’s Elite  , by 40 runs , was irrelevant .
The main thing , was that the players .. and those turning up to spectate , enjoyed the day .. with Peter being there in our thoughts.
I am pleased to say that due to the generosity of the players and ALL spectators , we were able to hand over to Peter’s step-son  Simon , a sizeable donation , for a charity of the family’s choosing.
I can’t finish this report , without thanking a number of people.
All of the players , both present and past , who turned out to play in the game ( and some of their partners ) and  who generously contributed towards the donation.
David Adams and Bev Field from the Parish council for attending and supporting the match.
Nadia Amin, from Roundway Pharmacy , for her support for the match and for providing excellent veggie samosas between innings.
Lynne Thompson for providing sweet treats ..
and ..
Justin and Heidi Sammuller , for providing such a plentiful and well received Brai ( he will appreciate the South African reference ) / BBQ.
Finally ..
Peter will be remembered with great fondness.
It is our hope as a club , that this match can be a fixture annually.
